Tips for selecting your accomodation in Cairns
As one of Australias biggest tourist towns, Cairns is a vibrant, colourful city with plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and of course accommodation. It is a popular holiday destination for both Australian and International tourists. Many people visit this beautiful part of the world so that they can visit the Great Barrier Reef, the world heritage Daintree Rainforest and the spectacular beaches. Cairns offers a great selection of accommodation to cater for all tastes and budgets. Sometimes it can be difficult to know how to choose the best accommodation to suit you. So here are a few tips to help you along….
Tip 1. Location
When it comes to accommodation in Cairns, you have the choice of either staying in the Cairns CBD, just outside the CBD, or at one of the beaches such as Palm Cove or Trinity Beach. Accommodation within Cairns CBD is always popular because of its central location. Tours to the Reef depart from the Marina which is in the Cairns CBD. Within the Cairns CBD there is the choice of hotels, self contained apartments and one resort. A self contained apartment is a great choice for families as they have more room and kitchen facilities and usually come in one bedroom, two bedroom or three bedroom. A resort or hotel is a good option for those wanting to make the most of the facilities on offer.
Tip 2. Budget
The cost of accommodation is always an important factor to consider when planning your holiday The good news is that Cairns has accommodation to suit all budgets. Cairns budget or cheap accommodation ranges from older style motels to backpacker hostels. There are also some budget, older style apartments just outside of Cairns City that have a pool and cooking facilities.
Mid range accommodation varies from inner Cairns City apartments in 3 star complexes to holiday parks which are usually located just outside the city. There are also some good mid range hotels within Cairns City that offer great value and plenty of facilities.
Luxury four and five star hotels and apartments are mostly located along the Cairns Esplanade or close to the Cairns Marina.
Tip 3. Family
Cairns offers lots of family friendly accommodation as well as accommodation that is better suited to couples without kids. Self contained apartments are generally a popular choice for families travelling with kids. Holiday Parks are also really well geared for children and usually offer lots of room to run around and plenty of activities for the kids. If you are travelling with children, it is definately a good idea to stay in accommodation with a nice, big swimming pool as the kids will love it!
There are plenty of luxury hotels, resorts and apartments that are well suited for that romantic escape without kids. These are mostly located in the Cairns City along the esplanade or in Palm Cove.
Tip 4. Tours and sights
It is a good idea to consider which sights and tours you would like to experience while you are in Cairns. This can have some impact on your accommodation selection. If you are planning to do a few tours to the Great Barrier Reef, it would be advantageous to stay somewhere close to the Marina where the boats depart. Ideally, staying somewhere near the Cairns esplanade or Marina would be helpful. If you prefer the idea of lounging around a resort and walking along the beach, it would be better to stay at one of the beaches.
