Cooktown Accommodation

Cooktown is a small town located in Far North Queensland, Australia. The town is rich in history and culture, having been inhabited by the indigenous Guugu Yimithirr people for thousands of years before Captain James Cook landed there in 1770.

Today, Cooktown is a popular tourist destination and offers a range of historical and cultural highlights for visitors to enjoy. Some of the town's most popular attractions include the James Cook Museum, the Botanic Gardens,  and the scenic drive to Grassy Hill Lookout. As for accommodation, Cooktown offers a variety of options, including hotels, motels, and holiday parks, making it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding region.

How to get to Cooktown
Cooktown can be reached via road, sea and air.
Driving to Cooktown you can take the inland route (approx 4 hours / 331km) which is a sealed road all the way and includes several lookouts along the way.  The coastal route takes you up through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation via the Daintree ferry and onto the famous Bloomfield 4WD track.  There is a selection of full day Cooktown and extended overnight 4WD trips that include the Bloomfield track and all the highlights of this amazing region.

Cooktown can also be reached by small aircraft.  If you have limited time, you can choose a one day scenic flight to Cooktown or a combination of Fly/drive tours which is a great way to include the highlights of Cooktown and experience the beauty of the remote destinations.

A number of luxury charter yachts, private boat charters are also available to explore Cooktown and perhaps the incredible fishing Cooktown offers.  There are small ship cruises which operate from Cairns for those that would like to explore the region by sea and include Cooktown.

Cooktown is a drawcard for tourists that are lovers of history and lovers of fishing and for those that just love to explore new horizons.

Check out the extended Overnight Cooktown Trips and Cooktown Day Tours including scenic flights, 4WD safaris, fly/drive tours, yacht charters and small ship cruises which include a visit to Cooktown and more!
