The 2014 Cairns Amateurs Carnival will be held on the 12th and 13th of September combined with race meets and fashionista events to be held at Cannon Park Race Course on Mulgrave Road just a 10 minute limousine ride from the Cairns city hotels and resorts.
The Annual Cairns Amateurs Horse Racing Carnival is 4 days of fun and festivities including 2 days of horse racing, fashion and glamour.
- The carnival was first held in 1959 and allowed both the City and Country residents to come together for basically a big party! Over the years the “Cairns Amateurs” has grown and matured into one of the country’s most prestigious horse racing carnivals that has merged with high fashion to make it an event for both the ladies and gentlemen to enjoy together.
The Cairns Amateurs now attracts around 20,000 racing and fashion enthusiasts to the event and the city of Cairns comes alive with visitors from all over Australia coming up to Tropical North Queensland to enjoy some social events along with admiring the local fashions, enjoying the weather and of course the horse racing.
Throughout the 4 days, a range of informal and formal social events and activities are held throughout the city of Cairns including the Cairns Airport Ladies Fashion High Tea, Cairns Amateurs Ball, and the main event, the Cairns Amateurs Cup Day (Race Day).
On the Friday and Saturday race goers can choose to purchase tickets in various viewing locations and corporate marquees around the Cannon Park racecourse.
The Cairns Amateurs Socials and Gala Events
These are the Cairns Amateurs Garden Party where you can enjoy the presence of Kate Waterhouse the National Ambassador of this year’s Cairns Amateurs Carnival in a fully air conditioned marquee and enjoy a 3 course luncheon with table service whilst you watch the fashion on the fields judging and fashion parades along with the horse racing trackside.

The Carlton 1500 Club Marquee is a two storey marquee offering a great view over the racecourse and down onto the fashionable crowds of people below. The Yellowglen House is a new benchmark in elegant sophistication for the Cairns Amateurs and is the new venue for those who value a little more comfort and class. A great spot to view the racing form of the horses as they parade and a great position for watching fashion on the field presentations.

The Cairns Amateurs Ball is the big social event that everyone looks forward to at Cairns Amateurs. Set down for the evening of Friday 12th September 2014 the ball will be held under the stars on the Esplanade precinct where guests all dressed in their best black tie dinner suits and ball gowns can wine and dine on a spectacular seafood banquet dinner with premium beverages.
There will be a headline act and other colourful live music and of course a visually spectacular fireworks display over the waterfront.
