Interview with Tourism Tropical North QLD CEO

CEO TOURISM TROPICAL QUEENSLAND, ALEX DE WAAL HIGHLIGHTS THE CAIRNS AMATEURS

Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Alex de Waal, is delighted that the TNQ destination is able to attract so many valuable events to the region.

The Cairns Amateurs is no exception to this rule representing one of the most unique and engaging events on the Queensland racing calendar.

“The Amateurs delivers all the colour and richness that Tropical North Queensland is famous for, with the added excitement and fun of horse racing”, said de Waal.

Mr de Waal, said the event exhibits 2 dimensions of benefit to the region. “One being the direct economic impact with an estimated $13 million spent by guests and patrons over the 4 days of the racing carnival, and the second being the profile of the event.”

“Horse racing is one of the most glamorous sports on earth, and the Tropical North Queensland delivery of this event supports the very strong destination profile via word of mouth propaganda and traditional media coverage.”

“Cairns Amateurs is glamorous, fun, magnetic and entertaining in a way no other racing event in Australia can be.”

Trackside fashion is bright and bold, and the events’ atmosphere provides for great excitement and entertainment.

Accommodation and ticket packages are readily available through companies such as the Cairns Holiday Specialists
