Explore rainforest waterfalls (Croc FREE), wildlife spotting and embrace the knowledge of the Aboriginal culture all whilst staying at Mungumby Lodge,  an area of high cultural significance to the Kuku Yalanji people.

Visit Queensland's most famous Aboriginal Rock Art at Split Rock, Laura, accessible via sealed road from lakeland Downs.

Birdwatching at Mungumby Lodge is another favourite acitivity - with so many unique species in the region, and the elusive Victoria's Rifle Bird near the car park.

The Tcharibbeena Restaurant features local produce and is a highlight during your stay with daily gourmet blackboard specials.  Please ensure to advise of any dietary requirements prior to arrival to avoid disapointment.  

On Sunday Nights an evening meal can be enjoyed in Cooktown Village, or a short distance it the infamous Lions Den Pub as the restaurant is closed for evening meals and lunch as the local chef enjoys a day off.

The Tcharibbeena Restaurant and Lodge is fully licensed and a stocked Bar is available with the lodge which you can serve yourself.  Ice is available for purchase for any BYO within your room.

Mungumby Lodge offers a unique venue for companies to hold their small group meetings, incentives or team building events.  Ensure to let us know your requirements and we can arrange everything to suit your needs including transfers, all meals, accommodation and specialised group tours or charters.  Internet and email facilities are available in the office with limited access.


Located at Helenvale, Black Mountain approximately 25 minutes before Cooktown and 3.5 hours from Cairns via the inland road (sealed).  

Self Driving to Mungumby Lodge you have two options to Black Mountain either via the Inland Road which is sealed, or by the Coastal Road via Cape Tribulation which is 4WD only.  The 4km driveway of Mungumby Lodge is unsealed but suitable for 2WD May - January. During the months of February - April a 4x4 may be more suitable.

The Inland way (Mulligan Highway) is open all year but can experience road closures at McLeod River during the wet months.  Sign posts to Mungumby Lodge are well sighted along the highway.

Flights from Cairns to Cooktown operate 5 days a week and take approximately 45 minutes, these can be booked with your accommodation and approximately $270 per person return.  Private Charter flights can be arranged for Helenvale airstrip near Mungumby Lodge, along with private Helicopter charters.

DAY ONE Cairns - Mungumby Lodge (305 Kms)
Driving north from Cairns via Mareeba past Kuranda to the Mulligan Highway onto Mt Carbine.  View true Outback aussie landscape and a quick stop at Palmer River Roadhouse is a must.  Continue on to Lakeland before following signs to Bloomfield, Lions' Den and Mungumby Lodge.  Driving Time from Cairns: approx 3.5 hours. DAY Two Cooktown (60 Kms)
Enjoy continental Breakfast at the Lodge before a day exploring the Cooktown region.  Ensure to stop at Black Mountain National Park on your way to Cooktown and Grassy Hill light house for 360 degree views.  Visit James Cook Museum (included) to learn about the rich history of the area.  The Cooktown Botanic Gardens, established in 1878 are well worth a visit and a very important part of Australian heritage.  In the afternoon enjoy a dip in the waterfall, or walk along the Mungumby Creek. DAY THREE Mungumby Lodge - Laura - Port Douglas (367 Kms)
Enjoy an early start after Breakfast travelling north to Laura, with stunning escarpments and rich history.  Arrive at the Quinkan Regional Cultural Centre at Laura where you will meet your guide and travel by 4WD to the Quinkan Galleries for interpretation of the ancient stories. The Quinkan Galleries Tour (included) is approx 3 hours, and is acknoledged as being the most highly regarded rock art in the region.  After your guided tour enjoy a picnic lunch in Laura, check out the General Store & Post Office to send a postcard.  Return back to Port Douglas via Lakeland towards Mareeba.
